IRS targeting gun owners for punitive taxation?

The U.S. federal government collected $20.6 billion in taxes on alcohol, tobacco, firearms and ammunition in fiscal year 2009, up 41 percent from the previous fiscal year.

In October 2009, firearms and ammunition excise tax collection climbed 45 percent from the previous fiscal year, the greatest annual increase in the firearms tax revenue in the agency’s history, the report said. By comparison, the average annual increase for fiscal years 1993 to 2008 was 6 percent.

A Gallup Poll conducted in early October 2009 said one possible explanation for the surge in gun and ammunition sales could be that more than 50 percent of the Americans who owned guns and some 41 percent of all Americans believed that President Obama would “attempt to ban the sale of guns in the United States while he is president.”

Obama, who supports reauthorizing the ban on assault weapons but has not made a push to do so, did sign a law that included allowing people to bring guns into national parks this past February.

It was unclear why the agemcy included the guns and ammunition information from October 2009. Calls and e-mails to the TTB seeking clarification were not immediately returned. - [source]

Nugent:Gun Rights Keep Americans Safe

In a world increasingly hellbent on abandoning logic and the ensuing escalation of Obama madness, it is clearly time for the maximum celebration of the good old, always reliable Uncle Ted crowbar of logic.

I am ThumpMaster, hear me roar.

In the otherwise universally recognized perfection of the American experiment in self-government, where evil monsters like Che Guevara and Mao Zedong are routinely worshipped by the very imbeciles that these historical murderers would have slaughtered unhesitatingly, to a community-organizer-in-chief whose terminal rookie agenda is maniacally to spend our way out of debt and drop charges against clear and present criminal New Black Panther thugs threatening voters in Philadelphia, to black-robed idiots claiming Americans have no right to self-defense, where pimps, whores and welfare brats party hearty with the mindless fantasy that Fedzilla will wipe their butts eternally, ad nauseam – I am compelled to increase my crowbar swinging to new heights every day. I am the steel ballerina. Let’s dance.-[source]

Chicago Thumbs Nose At SCOTUS Ruling

Who says a city council cannot act quickly to address an emergency?  Less than one week after the United States Supreme Court ruled Chicago’s 28-year old gun ban unconstitutional, approved the city’s mayor and compliant council rushed through a new firearms ordinance designed to address what they apparently viewed as a crisis, if not a catastrophe – that crime-beleaguered citizens of the Windy City might actually decide to lawfully possess firearms for self-protection.  The City’s rapid response to such a situation is nothing short of blatant civil disobedience; a local government thumbing its nose at the nation’s highest Court.

The lightening speed with which Daley and his cohorts, including the city’s top lawyer, Mara Georges, acted to thwart the Supreme Court’s June 28th opinion in McDonald v. Chicago, was swifter even than that by the District of Columbia following the high Court’s 2008 Heller decision striking down the three-decades old gun ban in the nation’s capitol.  While not identical in the particular steps each of these two local governments took to avoid complying with the Court’s rulings, the results are the same.  The regulations instituted by the city councils make it virtually impossible for the citizens of their respective cities to exercise their recently-revived Second Amendment rights in any realistic or meaningful way.-[source]

U.S. Gov’t. Celebrates U.N. Gun Destruction

Today, the U.S. State Department announced its support for the United Nations’ “International Small Arms Destruction Day.” The State Department, under the leadership of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, calls this ridiculous event part of the United States’ ongoing efforts to support the “rule of law around the world” and boasts of spending more than $130 million to destroy “1.4 million small arms and light weapons.” A press release from the State Department says this money was spent at the behest of the anti-gun United Nations to reduce the impact of “illicit flows of small arms and light weapons.”

Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist said, “The U.N. has long had an agenda of undermining our Second Amendment freedoms by ending all private ownership of firearms by law-abiding Americans. Now, our State Department is joining the effort. The Obama Administration’s embrace of this offensive ‘celebration’ and the UN’s ‘Programme of Action on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects’ — a program that has sought to disarm Americans and undermine the United States Constitution — is an affront to the 80 million law-abiding gun owners in our country.”-[source]

Daley Wants To Ban Guns, All Guns

As always, gun control proponents say they merely want “reasonable” gun control laws. Yet, when listing the actual laws they favor, they go well beyond what most people would possibly consider “reasonable.” Just look at the gun bans in Chicago and Washington, D.C. that local politicians and gun control organizations.
And the list of odd restrictions in Chicago goes on. While people can own a handgun for protection in their homes, it only applies to some parts of what most people would consider their home: the gun cannot be used for self-defense in one’s yard or garage, nor on your porch, even if it is enclosed. But certainly a garage is a possible place for criminals to strike. Is it “reasonable” that if criminals attack a family member in the garage, you aren’t allowed to effectively defend them?-[source]

Sharron Angle For Senate

Gun Owners of America endorses Sharron Angle in Nevada

Gun Owners of America Political Victory Fund is pleased to announce the endorsement of Sharron Angle for U.S. Senate .  Angle is running in a three-way primary for the right to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in November.

Sharron Angle is just the kind of “change” Washington needs right now.  Over her eight years in the Nevada legislature, Sharon stood 100% in favor of the Second Amendment and was a steadfast leader in protecting the constitutional liberties of all Nevadans.

Harry Reid, on the other hand, is trampling all over the Constitution.  In addition to pushing the massive, anti-gun Obamacare bill through the Senate, Reid has helped to secure the confirmations of President Obama’s left-wing radical nominees to the highest positions of power.

For instance, Sen. Reid voted to confirm Eric Holder to the position of Attorney General.  Holder was the point man for gun control initiatives such as the Brady bill and the semi-auto ban under President Clinton.

Almost immediately after his confirmation, Holder called for the reinstatement of the Clinton gun ban.  Holder also coauthored an amicus brief to the Supreme Court arguing in favor of the complete gun ban in the District of Columbia.

Sen. Reid secured the confirmation of Cass Sunstein as the new “regulatory czar,” despite the fact that Sunstein stated that he believes hunting should be banned.

The top legal advisor at the State Department, Harold Koh, also received Reid’s support.  Koh advocates bringing the U.S. into conformity with a draconian global gun control agenda.

And the newest Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor, could not have advanced if Sen. Reid had objected.  Indeed, Sen. Reid voted for this anti-gun radical, who had ruled as an Appeals Court judge that a complete gun ban by a state would be constitutional.

As Majority Leader, Reid could have objected to any and all of these nominees and insisted that the president put forth men and women who respected the Second Amendment.

Sen. Reid also was the architect of the Senate’s passage of the anti-gun government takeover of health care.  For over a year, GOA had warned that a federal database of Americans’ medical records, accessible to the government gun police—the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE)—could lead to the disarming of innocent Americans.-[source]

Gun Proponents Sue Daley, Chicago

Four Chicagoans who already own handguns but want to keep more than one gun in their Chicago residences have sued the city and Mayor Daley, saying that the city’s limits on gun ownership passed in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling against Chicago’s previous gun ban prevents them from “exercising their fundamental right to keep and carry firearms for self-defense and other lawful purposes.”

The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in federal court in Chicago. The defendants include Brett Benson, 37, a trader on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange who owns a farm in central Illinois; Raymond Sledge, 53, a public elementary school teaching assistant who owns his own home but lives with his mother, who lives near a high-crime area on the South Side, in order to take care of her; and a Chicago couple — Kenneth Pacholski and Kathryn Tyler  — he works in aircraft restoration, she is a veterinarian. All the plaintiffs own multiple guns but keep them outside the city limits, the suit says. With the city’s new gun ordinance they can each possess one gun, but they’d like to be able to have more than one gun in the city, the suit says.

Additionally, Sledge wants to be able to carry his handgun outside his home in order to defend himself, but he is prevented from doing so by the city’s onew gun ordinance, the suit says. Also among the plaintiffs is the Illinois Association of Firearms Retailers, which counts among its members people who would like to sell firearms and open shooting ranges within the city, but are barred from doing so by the city’s newest gun ordinances. The suit claims that the city’s new ordinances “infringes upon, and imposes an impermissible burden upon, the plaintiffs’ right to keep and bear arms.” The suit also claims that a provision that limits gun possession to those between 18 and 20 years old only if they have the written consent of a parent or guardian who is not prohibited from having a state Firearm Owner’s Identification Card, violates the rights of those under 21 to keep and bear arms.-[source]

Utah’s Gun Permit Popular With Nonresidents

James Roe, here a 64-year-old computer consultant from rural Pennsylvania, clinic spent a recent Saturday in a Pittsburgh suburb learning about riflings, find hangfires and powder charges. The gun safety class was for people seeking a concealed-firearm permit in Utah, some 1,500 miles away. Never mind that Mr. Roe has not been to Utah in 20 years and has no plans to visit anytime soon.

Like thousands of other gun owners who will most likely never set foot in Utah, Mr. Roe wants a permit there for one reason: It allows him to carry his semiautomatic .45-caliber pistol in 32 other states that recognize or have formal reciprocity with Utah’s gun regulations.-[source]

Gun Control Legislation Derailed

Legislation brought before the state senate recently, viagra order known as the microstamping bill, doctor has generated quite a bit of publicity. The measure is gun control under the guise of crime prevention. I voted against the bill and am pleased to say it was pulled from the senate floor after failing to garner enough support for passage.

The legislation (senate bill 6005) would mandate the use of a patented, sole-source technology called “firearms microstamping,” that would, in theory, imprint the make, model and serial number of the firearm onto the cartridge case when a gun is fired. Proponents say this will help police track down criminals who use a gun in commission of a crime. However, the sad truth is that this is nothing more than a smokescreen.-[source]
