Behind the scenes in the Battle of Fallujah

This was emailed to me, and because of that I have my doubts as to the credibility of this tale; I post it anyway.

Subject: Battle of Fallujah…..and Happy Thanksgiving Everyone,

Well Task Force 2-7 Cav made it back from Fallujah earlier than

expected, mission accomplished. It feels so good to be back from a

second successful mission that was as difficult as it was dangerous. We

left Camp Cooke on Nov 1 and staged at Camp Fallujah for about a week.

While there, we got the good news that George Bush was re-elected’.and

we had busy days and nights of planning and rehearsals for the big

attack. 2 days before “D Day,” a 122 mm rocket impacted 50 meters away

from our tents that sent everyone to the floor. We staged there at a

remote part of the post and it was obvious that a local national tipped

off the “mujahadin” (Arabic name for the enemy) where we staged. From

that attack, we lost one soldier and 4 more were wounded. That attack

gave the rest of the Task Force enough anger to last the whole fight.

After all the drills and rehearsals, the day for the attack finally came

on Nov 8. Prime Minister Allawi gave the green light and Coalition and

Iraqi forces went all the way.

1st place at my first Karate Tournament!

Traditional Karate League, <a href=ampoule 2004 Championship Series, help 1st Place Forms” width=”175″ height=”306″ border=”0″>

I know this is off-topic, but I just wanted to share my fun weekend with you.

I have been taking Tae Kwon Do for the last 3 months (you can read about my experiences thus far here) and Saturday I went to my first Karate Tournament where I won first place for my Kata! Whoo! Fun. Anyone else involved, or have been involved in the past, with the fine Art of Martial warfare? Leave your comments. I would like to hear something of your experiences.

My first tournament was held on Nov. 20th, 2004 in Arlington Texas. I had agreed to spend the $45 for the price of competing mainly because I had the money to burn and any scores gained went towards the American Black Belt Academy. I brought my digital camcorder and digital camera to get some photos for the ABBA web site (of which I am now the webmaster for) and spent 99.8% of my time there watching the talented martial artists compete in Forms and Sparring.

I was in the “executive beginners” group (being both OLD of age and NEW of skill) so thought I should be able to do well against the other old-beginners; I was fortunate to score 9.3, 9.3, 9.3 and win the first place trophy for my division! I feel I should be more excited about this win, but my kata lasted maybe 45 seconds and the gentlemen I was up against (both Gold belts) were more worried about the moves of their Katas rather than the snap and power.

Tax drivers per mile? California considers

Look for this to become nationwide within the next 5 to 10 years:

LOS ANGELES – California drivers are accustomed to paying the highest prices at the gasoline pump in the continental United States, troche but a proposal that their cars be outfitted with transponders to collect state taxes by the mile has stirred deep-rooted privacy fears.

The policy idea is a response to the growing popularity of gas-electric hybrid cars and concern that as more fuel-efficient vehicles clog the California’s highways, page a tax on gasoline consumption will no longer be the best way to finance road maintenance.

And you think you get SPAM?

The Microsoft Corp. chairman receives millions of Internet messages a day, said Steve Ballmer, the company’s chief executive. “Bill literally receives 4 million pieces of e-mail per day, most of it spam,” Ballmer said Thursday.

Spam or junk e-mails are unsolicited messages, generally advertising goods or services and usually sent to many e-mail accounts simultaneously.

Ballmer said Microsoft has special technology that just filters spam intended for Gates. In addition, several Microsoft employees are dedicated to ensuring that nothing unwanted gets into his inbox.

“Literally there’s a whole department almost that takes care of it,” he said.

U.S. Marine kills terrorist; Media in a frenzy

A group of U.S. Marines with an embedded “reporter” went into a mosque in the city of faluja which has been used to snipe at U.S. and coalition troups where they found some supposedly dead terrorists (“insurgents”). The Marine found one to be faking death (something clearly against the Geneva Conventions) and rather than risk the possibility of being blown up by a hidden explosive, the Marine killed the enemy combatant. ‘Nuff said, right? WRONG!

A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: “He’s fucking faking he’s dead.”

NBC said the Marine, who had reportedly been shot in the face himself the previous day, said immediately after the shooting: “Well, he’s dead now.”

So why is the media having babies over this? They were more than willing to allow John F’ing Kerry, and admitted war criminal, to be the President of their Blue State Country, and yet this Marine, who had been shot in the face just earlier and probably hadn’t been sleeping as of late is worthy of their ire? No more embedded reporters! People who haven’t a clue as to the true horror of war need to stay out of it. If war weren’t horrible it wouldn’t accomplish its purpose.

Let these brave Marines and Soldiers do their jobs and stop second guessing their work. When no one else can do the job, lets trust the Marines to do it right! Semper Fi my brethern!

AWB/Flash Suppressors

A favorite line of the gunbanners regarding flash suppressors on civilian carbines was the need to outlaw them based on the myth that police would not be capable of “seeing” the shot in the dark.
