Nevertheless, it would have been nice to kill the legislation on Saturday, especially given that the American people had not had an opportunity to thoroughly look at it.
As you know, GOA’s legal team has reviewed each version of the legislation and found it wanting. GOA has reported on these problems for several months, and now, these concerns are starting to gain traction inside the Beltway.
Today, The Washington Post reported that GOA’s gun-related objections “could cause political indigestion for Democrats from conservative states,” thus threatening the eventual passage of the bill. The Post said:
“The conservative group Gun Owners of America sent out an action alert to its 300,000 members on Friday warning that the Senate legislation would mandate that doctors provide ‘gun-related health data’ to ‘a government database,’ including information on mental-health issues detected in patients, which could jeopardize their ability to obtain a firearms license.

I don’t see the War On Terror ever coming to an end, until all countries eliminate the threat within their own borders. I’m shocked to see Syria become a safe haven for jihadists. For one, Khadaffi, while standing in a puddle of his own wee watching the Twin Towers fall, called President Bush at The White House denying responsibility for that days events, informing Dubya of Syria’s full cooperation hunting down those responsible.
The Syrian leader must’ve remembered Reagan’s wrath, another cowboy Republican that wouldn’t let anyone step on the toes of Americans……….

U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (pronounced TEE-hart), try R-Kan., released the following statement in response to heinous accusations from Mayor Bloomberg’s political organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns. On Monday the Bloomberg organization paid for a full-page advertisement in the Washington Post assigning blame for the Fort Hood massacre, in part, to firearm policy authored by Tiahrt and approved by Congress since 2002.

Here’s a dirty little secret about The New York Times: It likes to leak things. Important things. Things that change the course of the public conversation. From the Pentagon Papers to the ruined terrorist-surveillance programs of the Bush era, the Times has routinely found that secrecy is a danger and sunlight is a disinfectant.
Until now. A troublesome hacker recently released e-mails going to and from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Britain, e-mails that exposed how the “scientific experts” cited so often by the media on global warming are guilty of crude political talk, attempts at censoring opponents and twisting scientific data to support their policy agenda.
The e-mails prove just how dishonest this left-wing global warming agenda truly is. And now suddenly, The New York Times has found religion and won’t publish these private e-mails. Environmental reporter Andrew Revkin, who’s more global warming lobbyist than reporter, quoted — sparsely — from the e-mails, but declared he would not post these texts on his “Dot Earth” blog on the Times website: “The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.”

A Fort Benning spokesman says Army officials are investigating whether a suspicious note and package found at the west Georgia post is a viable threat.
Bob Purtiman says a soldier found the note and package Thursday morning in an outdoor gazebo. The soldier immediately told a supervisor, page who called 911. Purtiman would not say what was in the note or what was in the package.
He said authorities are investigating whether there is a viable threat against Fort Benning. He says security measures have been heightened in the meantime.

After explaining and defending his decision to give enemy combatants constitutional protections and the right to public trial in civilian courts, Attorney General Holder revealed his support for a national gun owner registration scheme and authorizing the government to ban firearm possession for any person by merely adding that person’s name to the terror watch list.
Drawing reasonable conclusions from what Holder publicly said, we now know:
- Holder wants a national, permanent gun registration system administered by law enforcement. A registration of honest citizens that have cleared the federal background check for gun purchases with those records permanently retained by and shared among law enforcement.
- Holder wants new federal authority to prohibit any person on the federal watch list (reported to be 400,000 names) from buying guns and supports confiscating guns from those on the list who possess them.
