Rules of Gunfighting

Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive.
"Why did you shoot only once? There’s no additional paperwork for shooting someone twice!" — Firearms Instructor P.O.J.D., MOS debriefing after a shooting.

Bring ammo.

The right ammo.

Lots of it.

If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a long gun… and a friend with a long gun.

In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

Funding sought for the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP)

The Pentagon said Monday it has asked Congress for funds to expedite
the production of so-called bunker buster bombs, drug which could be used to
penetrate underground nuclear and other military facilities in North
Korea and Iran. – [source]

The Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) GBU-57A/B is a project by the US Air Force to develop a massive, precision-guided, 30,000-pound (13,608 kg) "bunker buster" bomb. This is substantially larger than the deepest penetrating bunker buster presently available, the 5,000-pound (2,268 kg) GBU-28. – [source]

Pentagon Not Awarding Enough Medals of Honor

Eight years of war in Afghanistan and Iraq. About 4,000 members of the U.S. military killed in action. More than 34,000 wounded. Just six considered worthy of America’s highest military award for battlefield valor.

For some veterans and members of Congress, that last number doesn’t add up.

They question how so few Medals of Honor — all awarded posthumously — could be bestowed for wars of such magnitude and duration.

Pentagon officials say the nature of war has changed. Laser-guided missiles destroy enemy positions without putting soldiers in harm’s way. Insurgents deploy roadside bombs rather than engage in firefights they’re certain to lose. – [source]

Can't We All Just Get Along?

The furor over the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates continued this week, with Barack Obama and Gates digging in and insisting that Sgt. James Crowley of the Cambridge police was in the wrong. Yet Obama invited both men to the White House Thursday evening to resolve their differences over a beer. We presume the Secret Service asked to see Gates’ ID before letting him in.

For those beer connoisseurs out there, Sgt. Crowley had a Blue Moon, a Belgian-style wheat beer made by Coors Brewing Company, which is owned by a conservative family; Gates opted for Sam Adams Light, a nod to his home town; Vice President Joe Biden joined the trio and had low-alcohol Bucklers (his lips are loose enough as it is); and Obama took the politically safe route by drinking a Bud Light, a one-time American brew now owned by the Belgian InBev company.

He is supposed to be a man of the people, after all, and his usual chardonnay wouldn’t have suited the photo op. For our money, Stone Brewing Company, out in Escondido, California, has a much more fitting beer for the former community organizer. It’s called "Arrogant Bastard Ale," and its motto is, "You’re not worthy."

La Mesa Man Guilty Of Threats Against Obama

La Mesa man finds out when free speech is no longer protected, after he is convicted of making threats against a candidate for president.

SAN DIEGO, California – Walter Edward Bagdasarian walked out of federal court Tuesday morning the same way he walked in, wearing a stoic expression on his face and clutching the hand of his wife. But, when Bagdasarian came out of the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building he was a man guilty of threatening the man running for the country’s top spot, now President Barack Obama.

"The government’s position essentially was that the defendant intended to make a threat," said Assistant United States Attorney William Cole. "Again, the law does not turn on whether he intends to carry it out but whether he intends to make a threat."
