Factory expansion hits dead end with road dispute

Refusal to extend a stubbed-off road 550 feet may cost Rutherford County a sizeable manufacturing company and incalculable national and international marketing dividends.

Ronnie Barrett, patient owner of Barrett Firearms, pills manufacturer of the iconic Barrett Light .50-caliber rifle, web fears inability to build an access road to his new $4.5 million manufacturing facility just off the Buchanan exit of Interstate 24 will force him to move the business to another state.

A Murfreesboro native, Barrett is frustrated by the thought of moving elsewhere, largely because he believes he had an agreement with Tennessee Department of Transportation for easement of some 550 feet of right of way along the interstate to construct, at his cost, the road to the new manufacturing facility.

Barrett, who got his start in a gravel-floor garage producing the then unique Barrett Light .50, said the firearms producer is a $40-50 million/annual business that is recession proof
and doing business with 50-60 American allies.

Pelosi Halloween Health Announcement Hides a Trick on American Gun Owners

"The Obama administration and its supporters are using every trick in the book to undermine the gun rights of law-abiding American citizens," John M. Snyder charged here today. "Speaker Pelosi’s Halloween government health care bill announcement only underscores this reality."

"The current attempt to take over the American health care system by ramming government controls through Congress among other things is a back door attempt to get after Americans’ guns," said Snyder. "Obama is trying to do an end run around the Second Amendment under the health care rubric. His National Institutes of Health already is positing an adverse relationship between firearms and health.

"The government controlled health care program sought by Obama, Senate Majority Leader Reid, and House Speaker Pelosi could be used by anti-gun government bureaucrats to deny health insurance coverage to citizens who possess firearms. Under plans currently being considered in Congress, people could be denied health coverage simply because they owned guns. Bureaucrats could determine that gun ownership constitutes a health hazard. This would be a sleazy, dictatorial backdoor attempt to force law-abiding American citizens to give up their guns."

Chicagoland Women Buying Handguns Increasing

Local gun shop owners say they’re seeing an increase in the number of
women shoppers right now. The reasons, they say, are many, including
the downturn in the economy and violence on the street.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, about 48 percent
of people taking their first handgun seminars this year happen to be
women.

Gun Owners Win the Opening Battle on ObamaCare!

Congratulations!

You have stymied the shady tactics used by Barack Obama, and Harry Reid, information pills and Nancy Pelosi to try to pass the ObamaCare bill and — in the opening salvo of the battle — you blew them out of the water.

Gun Owners won a huge vote Wednesday in the Senate.

As you remember, the ObamaCare bill would dump your gun-related health data into a federal database.  It would also put your (government mandated) insurance at risk if you keep a loaded gun for self-defense.

But there was a problem:  The anti-gun health bills cost too much, and Obama had promised to pass a bill which would not raise the deficit by “one penny.”

So what Obama, Reid, and Pelosi did was to try to pass a separate bill (S. 1776) which would fund the anti-gun ObamaCare bill by raising the deficit another $247 billion dollars.

But, they would argue, because S. 1776 was a “separate bill,” the ObamaCare bill itself would not raise the deficit.

Congress Passes NRA-backed Legislation Protecting Pocketknife Classification

This week the United States Senate passed crucial legislation that will protect pocketknives used by tens of millions of Americans. The amendment, cure actively supported by the National Rifle Association, search was included in the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill and will keep pocketknives from being classified as illegal switchblades. U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) authored the amendment and were instrumental in its passage through Congress. U.S. Congressmen Bob Latta (R-Ohio) and Walt Minnick (D-Idaho) also played vital roles in the amendment’s passage in the House.

"This amendment was necessary to prevent commonly-used pocketknives from being branded as illegal switchblades," said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. "The National Rifle Association is grateful to Senators Cornyn, Pryor and Hatch and Congressmen Latta and Minnick, whose leadership fixed a provision that would have criminalized tens of millions of law-abiding Americans — including millions of hunters and sportsmen."

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) proposed amending the Switchblade Knife Act of 1958 earlier this year, which would have changed the interpretation of the definition of switchblade knives to include assisted-opening knives. Assisted-opening knives are frequently used by hunters, anglers, farmers, ranchers, firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel and others who may need to open a knife with only one hand. The measure, which will prevent this re-classification, now awaits President Obama’s signature.

No more checks on seized firearms

The New Hampshire Department of Safety has ordered law enforcement agencies to end the practice of running background checks before returning confiscated firearms to their owners.

In a memo sent on Sept. 28, treatment New Hampshire Department of Safety Assistant Commissioner Earl Sweeney reminded law enforcement officials throughout the state that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, physician known as NICS, find can be used only by federally licensed gun manufacturers, importers and dealers. If the NICS is being used by police or court officers to run background checks before returning confiscated guns, Sweeney wrote, they should stop.

"Conducting NICS checks prior to returning confiscated firearms technically constitutes misuse of NICS and exceeds the authority granted to the Department of Safety by the New Hampshire Legislature," he wrote.

Pistol-Packing Pastor Quits to Work for Gun Rights

A pistol-packing pastor who drew
national attention earlier this year for hosting a "God-and-Guns" event
at his church is stepping down from the pulpit to serve his flock with
a new mission.

Pastor
Ken Pagano ended his 30-year career last month when he resigned from
the New Bethel Church in Louisville, Ky., saying that he wants to focus
on church security and Second Amendment rights — a crusade he insists
is better fought outside the ministry.

"Thirty
years was a good, long run, but it’s time for a change," Pagano told
the Washington Times. "If I can write my own ticket, I want to get
involved more in Second Amendment issues as they affect the church, and
I can do more from outside the pulpit than from behind it," Pagano told
the paper.

About 200 people attended
Pagano’s "Open Carry Celebration" at the New Bethel Church in June. The
event commemorated the roles of religion and gun ownership in American
history, and included a handgun raffle. Attendees were also provided
with firearms-safety information.

While
Pagano says the event drew mostly positive responses, it made him
realize that he might have another calling — keeping worshippers safe. – [source]

Booby Prize

Since when do you get a prize – a Nobel Prize none-the-less – for intentions? Well, U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama just did. Read Article. Now it’s official, the Nobel Prize is meaningless. It pains me to say that because I feel sorry for the people who have truely merited such an honor. In Obama’s case, this award is based on what he PLANS on doing rather than what he has done. Unlike most other honorees, his award had no accomplishment behind it, just the empty promises of ‘hope’ and ‘change’.

ObamaCare Could be Used to Ban Guns in Home Self-Defense

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus has something to say to gun owners:  “Own a gun; lose your coverage!”

Baucus’ socialized health care bill comes up for a Finance Committee vote on Tuesday.  We have waited and waited and waited for the shifty Baucus to release legislative language.  But he has refused to release anything but a summary — and we will never have a Congressional Budget Office cost assessment based on actual legislation.  Even the summary was kept secret for a long time.

ObamaCare and gun control

It is nearly certain that coverage prescribed by the administration will, there to control costs, abortion exclude coverage for what it regards as excessively dangerous activities.  And, given Sebelius’ well-established antipathy to the Second Amendment — she vetoed concealed carry legislation as governor of Kansas — we presume she will define these dangerous activities to include hunting and self-defense using a firearm.  It is even possible that the Obama-prescribed policy could preclude reimbursement of any kind in a household which keeps a loaded firearm for self-defense.

The ObamaCare bill already contains language that will punish Americans who engage in unhealthy behavior by allowing insurers to charge them higher insurance premiums.  (What constitutes an unhealthy lifestyle is, of course, to be defined by legislators.)  Don’t be surprised if an anti-gun nut like Sebelius uses this line of thinking to impose ObamaCare policies which result in a back-door gun ban on any American who owns “dangerous” firearms.

After all, insurers already (and routinely) drop homeowners from their policies for owning certain types of guns or for refusing to use trigger locks (that is, for keeping their guns ready for self-defense!).  While not all insurers practice this anti-gun behavior, Gun Owners of America has documented that some do — Prudential and State Farm being two of the most well-known.

Reid Challenger Holds Raffle For Rifle

A Las Vegas man vying for democrat Harry Reid’s senate seat is giving away an AR-15 rifle in exchange for campaign contributions.
Mike Wiley, drug a conservative Republican, said supporters who purchase a $10 ticket will be entered into a raffle to win the rifle.
Wiley, who supports eliminating the IRS and social security said on his Web site that he entered the race because the other Republican candidates “lack the political toughness that one must have to defeat such overzealous socialists.” Continue Reading ‘Reid Challenger Holds Raffle For Rifle’
