FTC guns for Spyware

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission last week filed a legal complaint against two companies that allegedly infected computers with spyware and pop-up advertising, capsule then tried to sell their owners spyware-blocking software.

The Death of Superman

It is my displeasure to announce the death of US actor Christopher Reeve, from heart failure in New York; age 52.

Mr. Reeve was best known for his roll of Superman in the Hollywood version of DC Comics headliner character Superman.

Those of you watching the last presidential debates will remember that John Kerry invoked the name of Mr. Reeve when discussing stem-cell research. A pox on him! Long live Superman!

“Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his home in Pound Ridge and he died at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, publicist Wesley Combs told The Associated Press. Reeve’s family was at his side at the time of death.

Reeve had been under treatment at the hospital for a pressure wound, a bedsore-like complication common for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.” ~ nynewsday.com

What a friend we have in the Australian people

The people of Australia, historically of questionable heritage, have shown themselves to be true friends to both the Iraq and American people. Their honor is apparent and places them far above the spineless voters of Spain, France, California, New York and Germany.

Australia’s conservative Prime Minister John Howard, a key U.S. ally and supporter of the Iraq war, celebrated on Sunday his election win after voters enjoying the fruits of a strong economy gave him another term.

Howard’s ruling coalition won a fourth consecutive term on Saturday with what appeared certain to be an increased majority. In December he will become Australia’s second-longest serving prime minister.

Howard’s victory ensures that Australian troops will remain in Iraq. Latham (THE *LOSER*) wanted Australia’s 850 troops serving in and around Iraq home by Christmas.

Thank you Australia. This will not be forgotten by the Conservative Majority in America. I can’t say the same for the Liberals in this country who feel 1000 heroric soldier deaths are more traumatic than 3000 innocent civilians being killed in cold blood. Website of the day (back in the day)

Here’s one I would never had imagined; GeeksWithGuns.com was the “website of the day” for the online version of the San Francisco Chronicle on April 10th, 2004.

Web site of the day, one I bet isn’t filtered: Call up www.geekswithguns.com (“This isn’t your father’s Second Amendment Web site”) and you find everything the young geek wants to know about guns, from getting a concealed weapons permit to hearing the sounds of different guns, right up to a 105mm howitzer.

Thank you to the writer Rob Morse, who had a very good story titled “Good parents are the ultimate Web filters“. Continue Reading ‘Website of the day (back in the day)’

Gun Shop Debuts Credit-Card-Sized Shotgun

MINNEAPOLIS — In a new twist on the idea of concealed weapons, a local gun maker and gun shop are debuting a new type of firearm: one that could almost fit in your wallet.

It’s a two-shot weapon made from a piece of metal the height and width of a standard credit card, and about a half-inch thick. Each barrel fires seven standard steel BBs. It will retail for $100.

“This I can see being the ultimate self-defense weapon,” said Mark Koscielski, owner of Koscielski’s Guns and Ammo, the only gun shop in Minneapolis.

Limbaugh loses appeal in court

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (CNN) — The state acted correctly when it seized Rush Limbaugh’s medical records, Florida’s 4th District Court of Appeal announced in a written opinion issued Wednesday.

The seizure did not affect the popular talk-show host’s right to privacy, the court said Tuesday in its 13-page ruling.

Roy Black, Limbaugh’s attorney, had argued that his client’s privacy rights were violated when the state attorney’s office used a search warrant to seize the records, which gave Limbaugh no opportunity to challenge the seizure.

The American Civil Liberties Union has supported Limbaugh’s position, arguing the outcome could affect doctor-patient confidentiality.

DEBATE: Cheney and Edwards in agreement?

I almost choked on my beverage last night while watching the Vice President debate the “Breck Girl” of the Kerry ticket.

“A little tough talk in the midst of a campaign or as part of a presidential debate cannot obscure a record of 30 years of being on the wrong side of defense issues.” ~ V.P. Cheney

“… a long resume does not equal good judgment.” ~ John Edwards (AKA “Breck Girl”)

Um… Didn’t the VEEP just say that?

Michael Moore: Underwear Pimp

The Michigan Republican Party is asking four county prosecutors to file charges against filmmaker Michael Moore, charging that he illegally offered underwear, noodles and snacks to college students in exchange for their promise to vote.

“We want everyone to participate in this year’s election, but not because they were bribed or coerced by the likes of Michael Moore,” said Greg McNeilly, executive director of the state Republican Party.

Countrys largest firearms maker is not liable for shooting

The country’s largest firearms maker is not liable for the shooting of two police officers by a felon, a judge ruled.

Former Orange, N.J., police officers Dave Lemongello and Kenneth McGuire are not entitled to damages from Southport, Conn.-based Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc., Kanawha County Circuit Judge Irene Berger ruled Thursday.

The officers sued the gun maker and a South Charleston pawnshop two years ago, arguing they should pay damages because a Ruger handgun sold at the shop had been used to shoot them in January 2001.

Berger said it would require “a real stretch” to make the gun maker responsible because the gun had originally been sold to an Ohio wholesaler. By the time it got to the pawnshop, it had changed hands four times.
