KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. (AFPN) — A laser technology weapon will be the first man-portable, non-lethal deterrent weapon intended for protecting troops and controlling hostile crowds.
The weapon, developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate, employs a two-wavelength laser system and is a hand-held, single-operator system for troop and perimeter defense. The laser light used in the weapon temporarily impairs aggressors by illuminating or "dazzling" individuals, removing their ability to see the laser source.
Time to stick it to the commies on campus who argue that WMD was an illegitimate reason for waging war on Iraq because the coalition didn’t find any! Hah! HAHAHA! I’ve been waiting for this for so long. The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, "Saddam’s Secrets," released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.
Well, after missing the scheduled December test (due to a surgeon removing a torn Meniscus from my left knee) I am back on track with my Black Belt Adventure. This evening I take the toughest test I will have until my Deputy Dan test; Brown Belt (4th brown). I have 3 new one-steps (the 3rd with a take-down I have to perform on a willing stunt dummy), 3 jumping kicks and perhaps 5 forms to do. After all of that exausting stuff, I will have to fight 3 higher belts (one at a time). As usual my guts are all twisted up with anticipation and performance fears. I wish I could just turn off my emotion chip like Mr. Data can. There isn’t anything tonight that I don’t know or can’t do, and I have been working hard to recover from the surgery and December holidays. I am certain I will do well… Makes no sense to stress out, I know; but here I am anyway… Thanks to the continued support of our readers (just geeks like you and me… but more heavily armed), stomach we have some new firearms reviews for your viewing. If you would like to review your favorite weapon, adiposity please write up your own review and post it here! http://www.geekswithguns.com/modules.php?name=Reviews Continue Reading ‘New firearm reviews’ Does the statement, "We’ve always done it like that" ring any bells? Read to the end, this is a new one for me.
The US standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That’s an exceedingly odd number. Why was that gauge used? Because that’s the way they built them in England, and English expatriates built the US Railroads. Why did the English build them like that? Continue Reading ‘Why the U.S. RR tracks are 4 feet 8 ½ inches wide?’ There is a new breed of weaponry fast approaching—and at the speed of light no less. They are labeled "directed-energy weapons" and may well signal a revolution in military hardware—perhaps more so than the atomic bomb. Directed-energy weapons take the form of lasers, malady high-powered microwaves, information pills and particle beams. Their adoption for ground, air, sea, and space warfare depends not only on using the electromagnetic spectrum, but also upon favorable political and budgetary wavelengths too.

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C…
The Russians used a pencil. Your taxes are due again–enjoy paying them.
Our Constitution ::
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don’t we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, and it’s worked for over 200 years…
And, we’re not using it anymore.
Ten Commandments ::
The real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse is that you cannot post "Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery" and "Thou Shall Not Lie" in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians…
It creates a hostile work environment.
Next month a new high-explosive munition will be fired in Singapore and then tested again by the U.S. Army, heralding what may be a sea change in weaponry: a gun that can fire 240,000 rounds per minute.
That’s compared to 60 rounds per minute in a standard military machine gun.
Metal Storm Inc., a munitions company headquartered in Virginia but with its roots in Australia, has been developing a gun that can shoot at blistering speeds, albeit in short bursts as each barrel is reloaded.

Councilor Rob Consalvo wants to put a tracking device into newly manufactured guns and have legal gun owners retrofit their firearms so owners and police can locate and retrieve stolen guns the same way police use a computer chip to locate stolen cars.

State motor vehicle officials nationwide who will have to carry out the Real ID Act say its authors grossly underestimated its logistical, technological and financial demands.
In a comprehensive survey obtained by The Associated Press and in follow-up interviews, officials cast doubt on the states’ ability to comply with the law on time and fretted that it will be a budget buster.
