DUH! Offering coke to a cop sitting in his police car

ORLANDO — It wasn’t Halloween, so what was Michael Garibay thinking early today?

The Orlando man is accused of offering to sell crack cocaine to a uniform Orange County deputy sitting in a marked patrol car.

Garibay, 34, walked up to Deputy Ed Johnson at a Mobil gas station on Old Winter Garden Road and asked him if he was straight, according to arrest records.

"Do you know what that means," Garibay asked when the deputy responded that he is straight. "No. It means do you want to buy some cocaine."

Thinking the tall, 340-pound man was joking, Johnson said, yes, he wanted to buy some dope. That’s when Garibay pulled out a plastic bag containing "several pieces of flat white rocks substances" and asked for cash, records show.

The deputy took the baggie and arrested Garibay after the contents tested positive for cocaine, records show.

Garibay remained held in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail on charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. ~ Click here for more Continue Reading ‘DUH! WISCONSIN FIGHT TO OVERRIDE VETO FAILS

For the third time in four years, the law-abiding citizens of Wisconsin have been denied the same essential right to self-defense enjoyed by the citizens of 38 other states, including neighboring states  Minnesota and Michigan.  On Tuesday, January 31, the State Assembly, by a vote of 64-34, failed to override Governor Jim Doyle’s (D) veto of Senate Bill 403, the "Personal Protection Act" (PPA).  The vote was two short of the 66 required for an override.

Casting numerous votes in support of the PPA in the past, Representatives John Steinbrink (D-65) and Terry Van Akkeren (D-26) put partisan politics above your right to self-defense by voting to sustain the Governor’s veto.  It is regrettable these Representatives do not trust law-abiding citizens in Wisconsin to carry a firearm for personal protection.

21st Century Firepower

When involved in a close-Quarter Battle (CQB) situation (also referred to as FISH (Fighting In Someones House and often referred to as FISCH, or ‘Fighting In Some C#nts House’ by the British Army), one of the worst thing to have to do is stick your head round a corner or doorframe, or above the safe haven of a gulley or trench. Until recently, this was only avoidable through the expensive addition of a Cyberoptic Triangulation Sight and the surgery involved in optic augmentation. Now, a more immediate solution has been developed.

The CORNERSHOT system is not about to revolutionise urban warfare, but it will give those using it a definite edge over those not using it. CORNERSHOT has already been acquired by police and special forces units around the world after trials took place, and is in use in many cities as we speak. The system itself will only be available to the military or law enforcement communities.

Blackworm is about to wake

This advisory is marked as follows: (High)

Please be reminded that the software payload associated with the Nyxem.E (Blackworm) worm is programmed to corrupt a variety of files (includes *.doc, capsule *.xls, cialis 40mg *.mdb, viagra *.mde, *.ppt, *.pps, *.zip, *.rar, *.pdf, *.psd, *.dmp) and attempt to disable several security-related and file sharing programs on infected machines tomorrow, Friday, 03 FEBRUARY 2006.

As a rule, the worm is programmed to launch on the third day of every month. As noted by the antivirus firm F-Secure, when the payload is activated, the worm enumerates all logical drives and damages files on them in a loop. Files on local and removable drives (including USB memory) were damaged by the payload. Tests for infecting network drives were reported to be unsuccessful. This does not mean, however, that network drives are not sucseptible to infection.

Laser Gunship to take flight

The U.S. military has been developing a gunship that could literally obliterate enemy ground targets with a laser beam.
The military plans to test the Advanced Tactical Laser, a laser weapon mounted on a C-130H air transport that could destroy any weapon system without collateral damage.
The laser could have tremendous repercussions on the battlefield, particularly in urban warfare in such countries as Afghanistan and Iraq. "It’s the kind of tool that could bring about victory within minutes," an official said.
The applications of ATL could change military dynamics on the battlefield. Officials envision the laser being able to destroy or damage targets in an urban area with virtually no collateral damage. The range of ATL was expected to be 10 miles.

veto of concealed carry bill upheld

Wisconsin residents won’t be packing heat anytime soon.

The state Assembly on Tuesday failed by two votes to override Gov. Jim Doyle’s veto of a bill that would have ended the state’s 133-year-old ban on concealed weapons.

One of the deciding votes was cast by Rep. Terry Van Akkeren, D-Sheboygan.

Gun Control: Taken for a Ride in New York

Article does a decent job of rebutting New York gun-grabbers’ arguments.

"The National Tracing Center database is an essential resource for law enforcement. Beyond enabling law enforcement to trace the history of a gun linked to a crime, it helps identify patterns of gun theft and trafficking. And that information can help local law enforcement — like the NYPD — in stopping illegal guns before they’re used to commit crimes.

Yet the NYPD — along with every other branch of law enforcement in the nation — is being denied the information needed to get illegal guns off our streets: There is no requirement that stolen guns or guns used to commit crimes be reported to the National Tracing Center database.

The anti-gun male

LET’S be honest. He’s scared of the thing. That’s understandable–so am I. But as a girl I have the luxury of being able to admit it. I don’t have to masquerade squeamishness as grand principle-in the interest of mankind, no less.

A man does. He has to say things like "One Taniqua Hall is one too many," as a New York radio talk show host did in referring to the 9-year old New York girl who was accidentally shot last year by her 12-year old cousin playing with his uncle’s gun. But the truth is he desperately needs Taniqua Hall, just like he needs as many Columbines and Santees as can be mustered, until they spell an end to the Second Amendment. And not for the benefit of the masses, but for the benefit of his self-esteem.

He often accuses men with guns of "compensating for something." The truth is quite the reverse. After all, how is he supposed to feel knowing there are men out there who aren’t intimidated by the big bad inanimate villain? How is he to feel in the face of adolescent boys who have used the family gun effectively in defending the family from an armed intruder? So if he can’t touch a gun, he doesn’t want other men to be able to either. And to achieve his ends, he’ll use the only weapon he knows how to manipulate: the law.

The Surface Of The Sun Has a Hard Surface

The Surface Of The Sun The Photosphere And Electrically Driven Solar Flares

The sun’s photosphere is often mistakenly referred to as the surface of the sun.  In reality however, the sun’s photosphere is only a "liquid-like" plasma layer made of neon that covers the actual surface of the sun.  That visible layer we see with our eyes is more commonly known as penumbral filaments.   This visible neon plasma layer, as well as a thicker, deeper plasma layer of silicon, entirely covers the actual rocky, calcium ferrite surface layer of the sun.  The visible photosphere covers the transitional region that is the actual surface of the sun, much as the earth’s oceans cover most of the surface of the earth.   In this case the sun’s photosphere is very bright and we cannot see the darker surface features below without the aid of satellite technology.
