Obama To Block M1 Sales To Law-abiding Americans

Apparently, things are going so well in the Middle East that the State Department now feels it can turn its attention to banning the lawful possession of firearms by American citizens.

In a little-noticed decision in March, the Obama administration reversed an earlier decision and moved to block the importation of 857,470 lawful M1 semi-automatics which were being sold by South Korea in an effort to raise money for its military. According to Hillary Clinton’s State Department, this action was taken because the M1′s “could potentially be exploited… for illicit purposes.”

Even worse, a spokesman for the State Department left the impression that the valuable historic relics could even be melted down, as Clinton’s husband did during his administration. Suffice it to say that this is just another reiteration of the same anti-gun political theatre. And the cheers coming from anti-gunners like Dennis Henigan of the Brady Campaign are ample proof of that.

Possession of these guns by Americans is lawful. They are antiques of historical interest, particularly for those who, unlike Clinton and her husband, served this country honorably in America’s foreign wars. And anyone wishing to acquire one would have to go through an Instant Check.

If any American, going into the November elections, had any doubt that Barack Obama and the Democratic Party leaders hate guns and have contempt for the Second Amendment, this is proof.  Reps. John Boozman and Paul Broun are submitting a letter to State Department Secretary Hillary Clinton — demanding that this unlawful decision be reversed.-[source]

  • Well the CMP does fine work checking the safe function of surplus firearms before the sale to law abiding Americans.
The government therefore makes money on the sales of these arms, the destruction of which would further add to lost monies the federal government could use.
    DOESN’T MAKE SENSE DOES IT?

figures. gotta love the way the govt. thinks of ways of cutting costs to get out of a deficet. like lets close the “always packed -> constant cash flow” dmv several days out of the month, or lets cut unemployment (taxes are held out of it and it’s the companys that terminated the person paying the wages not govt., only the stimulus part of it), instead of “mr. $600,000 a year big wig govt. employee” working a few days out of a year for free.

also doesn’t everyone love how obama, before being elected and going from state to state, was talking about how as a govenor he was anti-gun, but as president, he would stand pro-gun? sure funny how fast that changed…

It seems to me that this law should be fairly easy to over turn in federal court on the basis that it was based on invalid facts. I read that the sales were stopped because the government did not want “a high capacity magazine assault rifle” to be available. At nearly three feet long and 11 lbs. the M1 is anything but an assault rifle even by the governments definitions. There is no way a magazine can be fitted to an M1 and there is no way an M1 can be made to fire full auto. In the 1970′s the M1 was still the basic US army weapon. This was because there were millions in warehouse, mostly forgotten.

    • I agree. Plus, these firearms are going to generate cash flow, paid taxes, etc. Plus, they’ll probably generate other cash sales as well, such as slings, ammunition, en bloc clips, cleaning kits, etc.
