Green party members in Maine are having varying reactions to Ralph Nader’s announcement that he will run for president.
Some are saying that Nader — who will run as an independent — should be running as a Green, as he did in the 2000 election. But others say he should not run at all.
State Representative John Eder of Portland is the only Green state legislator in the country. He says he will vote for the Democratic nominee this election to give him a better shot beating President Bush in the November election.
Even though Nader is running as an independent, there is a chance he could show up as the Green nominee on Maine’s ballot this November.
The Green party is holding its caucuses this month and next. It will decide at its state convention in April whose name to place on the ballot as a presidential candidate.
