Army Marksmanship Unit hosts Nationals

FORT BENNING, Ga. – The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit will host the USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle, Pistol and Running Target – June 18 to 29.



The Shotgun National Championships will be conducted at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 9 to 19, by USA Shooting—the national governing body for the Olympic shooting sports in the United States.

Currently, five USAMU soldiers are USAS National Championship Record Holders: Sgt. 1st Class Thomas A. Tamas in Prone Rifle, Sgt. 1st Class Daryl Szarenski in Air and Free Pistol, Staff Sgt. Jason Parker in Air Rifle, Staff Sgt. Armando Ayala in 50-Meter Running Target 30+30 and Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Dulohery in Skeet – and six USAS National Champions: Parker in Air Rifle, Szarenski in Free Pistol, Dulohery in Skeet, Ayala in 10-Meter Running Target 30+30 and 50-Meter Running Target Mixed Runs, Sgt. 1st Class Lance Dement in 50-Meter Running Target 30+30 and Sgt. 1st Class Theresa DeWitt in Trap.



Rifle and pistol matches start at 8 a.m. and running target matches start at 9 a.m. The competition schedule is as follows:



*June 18: Men’s & Women’s Air Pistol and Men’s & Women’s 10-Meter Running Target Official Training Day.



*June 19: Men’s & Women’s Air Pistol Matches; Men’s & Women’s 10-Meter Running Target Matches; and Sport Rifle Three Position & Prone Official Training.



*June 20: Men’s & Women’s Air Pistol Matches, Finals & Awards; Men’s & Women’s 10-Meter Running Target Matches, Finals and Awards; Sport Rifle Three Position & Prone Matches and Free Pistol Official Training.



*June 21: Sport Rifle Three Position Match, Finals & Awards; Sport Rifle Prone Match and Awards; 10-Meter Running Target Mixed Runs Match and Awards; and Men’s Air Rifle, and Free and Sport Pistol Official Training.



*June 22: Free and Sport Pistol Matches; Men’s Air Rifle Match; and Women’s Air Rifle & 50-Meter Running Target Official Training.



*June 23: Free & Sport Pistol Matches, Finals & Awards; Men’s Air Rifle Match, Finals & Awards; Women’s Air Rifle Match; 50-Meter Running Target Match; and Free Rifle Training.



*June 24: Women’s Air Rifle Match, Finals & Awards; 50-Meter Running Target Match & Awards; and Free Rifle and Center Fire, Junior Sport and Standard Pistol Official Training.



*June 25: Center Fire, Junior Sport and Standard Pistol Matches; Free Rifle Prone Match; and Men’s Free Rifle Three Position Official Training.



*June 26: Center Fire, Junior Sport and Standard Pistol Matches & Awards; Free Rifle Prone Match, Finals & Awards; Free Rifle Three Position Training.



*June 27: Free Rifle Three Position Match and Rapid Fire Pistol Official Training.



*June 28: Free Rifle Three Position Match, Finals & Awards and Rapid Fire Pistol Match.



*June 29: Rapid Fire Pistol Match, Finals & Awards.

(Formed in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to raise the standards of marksmanship throughout the U.S. Army, the Army Marksmanship Unit is assigned to the Accessions Support Brigade, U.S. Army Accessions Command, of Fort Monroe, Va.)



The Marksmanship Unit trains its soldiers to win competitions and enhances combat readiness through train-the-trainer clinics, research and development. The world-class soldier-athletes of the USAMU also promote the Army and assist recruiters in attracting young Americans to enlist in the Army.
