This weekend I am visiting family in the wild country of Oklahoma. I am especially excited about bringing my telescope up there because the skys are SO very dark compared the to light-polluted skies of Dallas/Ft. Worth.
Being a geek, I have always been terribly facinated with astronomy and the science fiction it has inspired. Only recently have I purchased a scope to see the planets myself.
June 8th is an exciting time for amature and professional astronomers as Venus moves across our view of the sun; offering a unique opportunity to view the “transit”, the first since 1882. Only six of these transits have ever been observed – the first in 1639.
Being in North America, the view isn’t going to be what it will in Europe, so I will be visiting the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and Industry at 5AM to view the live webcast on the OmniMax ceiling… See you there?

TOKYO : Microsoft Corp. said it has scrapped the development of its first mass participation role-playing game for its Xbox console, saying it could not deliver on its promise of a truly “novel” experience.
“True Fantasy Live Online”, under development by Japanese maker Level 5 Inc., had been actively promoted since March 2002 as a revolutionary game in which “thousands” of people could participate at once.
“Currently we do not have a certain prospect for completion so it was decided to halt development,” said Asako Miyata, a spokeswoman for Microsoft’s Japanese unit. read more…

Google’s free e-mail service has been derided as an obnoxious privacy invasion that will suck up vast amounts of user data and deposit information into a massive database that never disappears.
And that’s before it’s even officially available.
The Internet search leader says its computers will merely be scanning e-mail so it can place relevant and nonintrusive text ads next to messages. That’s how Google plans to make a buck — and be able to offer the service without charging the user.

With all the latest revelations of both US and British troops mistreating Iraqi prisoners, my question is this. Where has Dignity gone? This kind of behaviour is to be expected of Iraqi dictators or terrorists but not from the leader’s of the free world. I was shocked to see the photos on TV of US soldiers piling up naked Iraqis and apparently making fun of their genitalia. I was equally horrified to see a picture of a British soldier, urinating on a blindfoldd Iraqi prisoner. This behaviour DOES constitute war crimes in a broad sense (The Geneva convention, covering the treatment of prisoners) and must be dealt with harshly. This foul and disgraceful behaviour is NOT the way either the US or British soldiers should be viewed because in general they are both extremely professional forces, however, now a few “bad eggs” have spoiled the reputations of just about anybody who was involved in the coalition is the first place. This also (in my opinion), has dented a strong background that both countries have enjoyed following the defeat of Adolf Hitler’s hoards of Nazi slimeballs in WW2. I wonder where it will all end.

“Whenever I hear “they hate us because of our freedom” or “because they hate our way of life” or some other such drivel, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. If real people didn’t suffer the consequences of it, such ignorance would be amusing. But another annoying thing about statements like these is that they perpetuate the myth that we live in a land of freedom. The sad fact is, we are not free, and haven’t been for a long, long time.” “You need government permission to make your home, travel, earn a living, defend yourself, obtain medical treatment, and educate your children. You will never get government approval for many of those things in many places. You will never get government permission to entertain your mind and body in unapproved ways. At certain times, you cannot criticize those who decide who and what gets approved. You must sell your property to the government if they want it, and you must kill and die for them if they tell you to. And you have no choice but to pay for it all anyway, whether you like it or not.” Strike the Root by Alfred A. Hambidge, Jr. Continue Reading ‘‘They Hate Us Because of Our Freedom’’

What is the ID SNIPERTM rifle?
It is used to implant a GPS-microchip in the body of a human being, order using a high powered sniper rifle as the long distance injector. The microchip will enter the body and stay there, troche causing no internal damage, and only a very small amount of physical pain to the target. It will feel like a mosquito-bite lasting a fraction of a second. At the same time a digital camcorder with a zoom-lense fitted within the scope will take a high-resolution picture of the target. This picture will be stored on a memory card for later image-analysis.
Why use the ID SNIPERTM rifle?
As the urban battlefield grows more complex and intense, new ways of managing and controlling crowds are needed. The attention of the media changes the rules of the game. Sometimes it is difficult to engage the enemy in the streets without causing damage to the all important image of the state. Instead EMPIRE NORTH suggests to mark and identify a suspicious subject on a safe distance, enabeling the national law enforcement agency to keep track on the target through a satellite in the weeks to come.
