Groups call arms seizures ‘arbitrary’

Two national gun rights groups yesterday joined individual Louisiana gun owners in a federal lawsuit to stop authorities from confiscating firearms from private citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed a motion in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, seeking a temporary restraining order to halt the seizures of guns from law-abiding citizens. They described the confiscations as "arbitrary," "without warrant or probable cause" and thus "illegal." Continue Reading ‘Groups call arms seizures ‘arbitrary’’

Little Old Lady IED

Oh wow.

DALLAS — A fire in a chartered bus filled with elderly Hurricane Rita evacuees, sale including some who used oxygen, killed 24 people and injuring at least one near Dallas Friday.

Authorities said the bus apparently caught fire due to a mechanical problem, and that oxygen tanks then started exploding on gridlocked Interstate 45.

The fire caused a 17-mile backup on a freeway that was already heavily congested with evacuees from the Gulf Coast.
State officials said northbound traffic was diverted off I-45 onto U.S. Highway 287 at Ennis, about 30 miles southeast of Dallas.

I-45 stretches more than 250 miles from Galveston through Houston to Dallas.
Bellaire city officials defended the decision to evacuate the elderly patients from the Brighton Gardens nursing home. Continue Reading ‘Little Old Lady IED’

The show that Fox just couldn’t get rid,or maybe more importantly, the fans of the short-lived television series "Firefly" just wouldn’t let the story end.

Set it the not too distant future,a story of a renegade crew already on the run from authorities, contract out to a doctor to  carry himself and his valuable cargo, which happens to be his highly intelligent sister which escaped from a government lab.

The rest of the crew consists of Serenity’s beautiful female mechanic,a deadly mercenary,a priest,a legalized prostitute, the pilot and his violent wife who fought alongside the Captain during the war.
After a failed revolution against the Alliance, comparable to Colonial American Revolutionaries that fought against the Crown, and lost, the soldiers attempt to flee the Alliances’ "justice", setting off on Serenity, one of the universes’ fastest ships available,a Firefly series.

Florida boosts gun rights, igniting a debate

A new law allows residents to employ ‘deadly force’ in public places – part of a new nationwide drive by gun lobby.

By Jacqui Goddard
Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor

MIAMI – When 16-year-old Mark Drewes knocked on a neighbor’s door in Boca Raton, Fla., and then ran away as a prank, he was shot dead by homeowner Jay Levin. Mr. Levin, who said afterward that he mistook the boy for a robber out to attack him, was sentenced to 52 weekends in jail for manslaughter.

Now, 18 months later, the state has enacted a law that opponents fear will only encourage more gun owners like Levin to adopt a “shoot first, think later” approach – and this time get away without punishment. But others see the new measure, which allows people to meet “force with force” in public places without fear of punishment, as a vital way for people to protect their homes and families.

What is ‘Profiling’?

Profiling: A technique whereby a set of characteristics of a particular class of person is inferred from past experience, and data-holdings are then searched for individuals with a close fit to that set of characteristics.
www.utexas.edu/lbj/21cp/ebt/glossary.htm

It is also term in programming, but more so in criminal investigations as of late. Minorities (mostly Muslim male extremists between the ages of 17 and 40) fear they will be targeted for investigation because a majority of terrorist attacks have come from Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 and 40. Heck yeah, well stop going to terrorist training camps!

Why are random checks being done at airports? Since when are little old ladies who recently taught at a summer bible camp of such a suspicious nature, that they warrant a solid frisking?

Profiling is a great beginning. It’s not the answer.
As they say over at LiberalScum.com , “You reap what you sew liberal scum” (though I am certain they meant SOW rather than SEW).
