This is to let you know after over a year of interviews and chasing leads, our book, "The Great New Orleans Gun Grab" is about to be released by the publisher. It will be on Amazon, and in major bookstores at least in the Southeast within three weeks.
This book tells the stories of gun owners who elected to stay and defend their property in the face of Hurricane Katrina, and how the many law enforcement units that poured into New Orleans to "assist" the beleagured NOPD turned vicious, with rogue cops roaming the city, harassing, abusing, debasing, even assaulting gun owners. In many cases they forced their way into homes or vehicles with no legal right, no warrants, and took guns at gunpoint, refusing to identify themselves by name or badge number, and refusing to allow the citizens to copy the serial numbers of the guns that were being stolen.

I stole this from the New York Times: Mr. Tibbets piloted the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb ever used in warfare and changed the face of warfare forever.

Seems Mr. Tibbits was concerned about his own death and will leave no marked grave behind. What a shame. Continue Reading ‘Paul W. Tibbets Jr., Pilot of Enola Gay, Dies at 92′
Call it Star Trek tech for microscopes. MIT researchers said this week they have found a way to use a "tractor beam" of light to pick up, hold, and move around individual cells and other objects on the surface of a microchip. The technology is known as optical tweezers and MIT researchers have found a way to combine this powerful tool for moving, controlling and measuring objects for use in building and manipulating items on a chip. Optical tweezers technology has been around for awhile but the ability to use it in combination with the microchip is what makes this unique, researchers said.
The U of Washington Tricorder
Earlier in the year researchers at the University of Washington said they were experimenting with a device right out of Star Trek: a Tricorder-like tool that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound rays. On Star Trek Tricorders had multiple functions but the medical version used by Bones McCoy could scan a body and help diagnose and heal injured or sick patients. In addition, Purdue University researchers said they created a handheld sensing system its creators said could be used for testing foods for dangerous bacterial contaminants including salmonella.

I remember a couple years back reading about some suit the military was investing in that used a similar tech as in the story below. Guess the price of flatscreens dropping like they have been is enabling the military to make some new toys! (not that price would have stopped them)
In secret trials last week, the army said it had made a vehicle completely disappear and predicted an invisible tank would be ready for service by 2012.
The new technology uses cameras and projectors to beam images of the surrounding landscape onto a tank.
The result is that anyone looking in the direction of the vehicle only sees what is beyond it and not the tank itself.
A soldier who was at the trials said, "This technology is incredible.
"If I hadn’t been present I wouldn’t have believed it. Continue Reading ‘Invisible Tanks ’
Finally, I can take a break from watching Doctor Who (which gets old after a few Doctors) and spend my scifi TV time with the Star Wars Universe!
Filmmaker George Lucas said Tuesday that he has “just begun work” on a live-action television series rooted in the “Star Wars” universe, which is huge news not just for fans of the science-fiction epic but also for networks looking for a piece of the Lucas magic that has grossed $4.3 billion in theaters worldwide.

"… I noted that since the draconic gun ban in the UK (which is part of a broader campaign against the idea of self-defense), information pills the rates of gun crime, violent crime, and murder have increased in the UK, even though they had been falling prior to the ban. I also showed that in the years since it became possible for any lawful person to carry concealed handguns in the majority of states in the US, violent crime and murder have fallen greatly."

Deep inside Washington’s police headquarters is a library like few others, with floor-to-ceiling racks displaying 1,700 guns, from a World War II-era rifle with bayonet to rows of pocket-size revolvers, automatic pistols and big six-shooters that look straight out of the Wild West.
Most of the guns, used now for forensic research, were seized during crimes under a 31-year-old law in the nation’s capital that bars handgun ownership for nearly everyone except law enforcement — a measure police have praised as a valuable tool against violence.
But that ban is now in jeopardy. The law was struck down by a federal appeals court this year, and now the District of Columbia is asking the Supreme Court to weigh in. Both sides of the gun debate are apprehensive.
The case represents the first time a federal appeals court struck down a gun-control law on the grounds that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individuals to own guns. Up to now, courts have generally interpreted the amendment to protect only the collective right of states to maintain militias.

To: Mr. Mark P. Mays CEO, Clear Channel Communications Inc. 200 East Basse Road San Antonio, TX 78209
Dear Mr. Mays,
At the time we sign this letter, 3,808 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq, and another 28,009 have been wounded. 160,000 others awoke this morning on foreign sand, far from home, to face the danger and uncertainty of another day at war.
Although Americans of goodwill debate the merits of this war, we can all agree that those who serve with such great courage deserve our deepest respect and gratitude. That is why Rush Limbaugh’s recent characterization of troops who oppose the war as “phony soldiers” is such an outrage.
Our troops are fighting and dying to bring to others the freedoms that many take for granted. It is unconscionable that Mr. Limbaugh would criticize them for exercising the fundamentally American right to free speech. Mr. Limbaugh has made outrageous remarks before, but this affront to our soldiers is beyond the pale.
The military, like any community within the United States, includes members both for and against the war. Senior generals, such as General John Batiste and Paul Eaton, have come out against the war while others have publicly supported it. A December 2006 poll conducted by the Military Times found just 35 percent of service members approved of President Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who disapproved. From this figure alone, it is clear that Mr. Limbaugh’s insult is directed at thousands of American service members.
Active and retired members of our armed forces have a unique perspective on the war and offer a valuable contribution to our national debate. In August, seven soldiers wrote an op-ed expressing their concern with the current strategy in Iraq. Tragically, since then, two of those seven soldiers have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq.
Thousands of active troops and veterans were subjected to Mr. Limbaugh’s unpatriotic and indefensible comments on your broadcast. We trust you will agree that not a single one of our sons, daughters, neighbors and friends serving overseas is a “phony soldier.” We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments.
Sincerely,
Senator Harry Reid, Majority Leader Senator Richard Durbin, Assistant Majority Leader Senator Charles Schumer, Vice Chairman, Democratic Conference Senator Patty Murray, Secretary, Democratic Conference Senator Daniel Akaka Senator Max Baucus Senator Joseph Biden Senator Barbara Boxer Senator Sherrod Brown Senator Robert Byrd Senator Benjamin Cardin Senator Tom Carper Senator Bob Casey Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Senator Kent Conrad Senator Christopher Dodd Senator Byron Dorgan Senator Dianne Feinstein Senator Tom Harkin Senator Daniel Inouye Senator Edward M.
