Ever heard of a "good" internet worm? Well in this case, the "good egg" happens to be the most unlikely candidate – a variant of 2005′s most prolific worm – Sober.
A 20-year-old man from Paderborn, Germany, reportedly turned himself in to the police for owning child pornography, after mistaking a message bearing a variant of the Sober worm, as a legitimate directive from the German law enforcement.
Read more…The man was fooled by an e-mail from a version of the Sober worm, which said "an investigation is underway"; the sender was listed as Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt or BKA).
The 20-year-old turned himself in to the Paderborn police, confessing that he owned pornographic pictures of children and the police did find child pornography on the man’s computer, when they searched his home.
