When the public is packing heat, it’s more dangerous for deranged criminals to threaten innocent life because individuals can defend themselves. No organization does more to protect our right to keep and bear arms than the National Rifle Association, and when you go against the NRA, you get thumped. Just ask Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.-[source]

AB 1810(Feuer) – Registration of Rifles and Shotguns

AB 1934 (Saldana) – Handgun Open Carry Prohibition

AB 2358 (De Leon) – Ammunition Registration

All three of these bills posed a fundamental threat to the rights of gun owners. And there was no room for compromise any one of the bills.

It was a fight down to midnight, but in the late hours of August 31, AB 1810, AB 1934, and AB 2358 were DEFEATED!

This is a huge win for gun owners. Thank you to all members who took time to contact members of legislature and voice their strong opposition to these bills. Your collective voice was heard loud and clear at the capitol. You stoked the fire against AB 1810, AB 1934, and AB 2358 and it paid off!-[source]

Monday’s 20-16 vote fell one short of the majority needed, but the Senate will reconsider the measure Tuesday.

The bill, AB1934, was introduced after a series of demonstrations by gun-rights organizations during which they encouraged participants to openly carry unloaded weapons. California law lets gun owners carry a rifle or handgun in a holster if it is not loaded.

The legislation would make it a misdemeanor to openly carry a handgun in any public place.-[source]

A storm of liberal anti-gun opinion is swelling to force international anti-gun policies on American citizens as NAGR continues the fight to protect the Second Amendment from international gun grabbers.

Recently we reported that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration are pushing for Senate ratification of the United Nations’ “Small Arms Treaty.” The National Association for Gun Rights has taken the lead on stopping this end-run around the Constitution by contacting millions of Americans about this impending threat to their liberties, and working with principled leaders in Washington, D.C. to build a bulwark against the treaty.-[source]

Although the handgun must be unloaded it is legal to carry ammunition with you and, with a little practice, have the gun loaded and aimed in less than two seconds. There are some restrictions however. It is illegal to walk along a public sidewalk or across a public street within 1,000 feet of the grounds of a K-12 public or private school. It is legal to openly carry at a business, residence or private property (so long as the private property doesn’t have a sidewalk with a public easement). Step one foot onto the public sidewalk, or any government property, and you face serious jail time.-[source]

The bill, HR 2324, would subject gun show hosts to a slew of pointless, time consuming regulations in addition to heaping all sorts of red tape and record keeping requirements on gun show hosts and participants.

The ultimate goal of Quigley’s bill is to make hosting a gun show too much of a hassle to endure. As a result, this bill would quickly make gun shows disappear all together.

In July of this year he once again made it completely clear that he was in favor of a renewed “assault weapon” ban.

Obama is no longer laying low on the issue. We also know where Obama’s socialist Supreme Court appointees Sotomayer (who voted against the McDonald decision), and almost certainly Kagan, stand on citizens owning firearms. Kagan is just another Sotomayer when it comes to 2A. Like Sotomayer, she waffled and said all the right things to gain her confirmation by the Senate. Do you really think Kagan would have voted in favor of Heller or McDonald?

No, who can now seriously doubt that Obama, and those who he’s appointed, are not deeply ingrained enemies of the Second Amendment?

Why this recent renewal of Obama’s true agenda? Up until now Obama knew that he did not have the votes in Congress to pass anti-gun legislation. “Gun control” is, at this time, a political non-starter. So he temporarily put on his sheep’s clothing and played the “moderate” on gun rights. This has well suited his actual wider purpose.

With an anticipated lame-duck session of Congress after the November elections, Obama’s strategy is certain to surface. In many ways it will be a “now or never” opportunity for him. It will also be a last gasp chance at bitter revenge from liberal anti-gun politicians who will have been rejected by an angry November electorate.-[source]

AB 1810 SUMMARY: Applies the same regulations relating to the reporting and retention of records for handguns to long guns, as specified. Specifically, this bill conforms reporting and record retention provisions in order that transfers and information reporting and retention requirements for handguns and firearms other than handguns are the same.

AB 1810 requires registration of rifles and shotguns in the same way handguns are now registered in California. Under current law, the information collected at the time of purchase of a rifle or shotgun (serial number, make, and model) is destroyed after the background check is completed. AB 1810 will require that the make, model, and serial number of the firearm, as well as the identifying information of the purchaser, be recorded and kept on file by the California Attorney General’s office. AB 1810 will also impose additional costs on firearms owners to maintain the registration system as well as on the state’s licensed firearms dealers and small businesses who already deal with extensive recordkeeping requirements

Assembly Member Feuer, the author of AB 1810, claims that the registration of rifles and shotguns will help law enforcement track down criminals and persons prohibited from owning firearms. This logic is flawed. Studies have shown that violent criminals steal firearms to commit crimes and of course they do not comply with current law by registering their stolen handguns.

It is already against the law to possess a stolen firearm or to possess any firearm if you are prohibited from possessing a firearm by law. And most criminals file off the serial numbers on guns used in crimes. In truth, the only persons impacted by this unnecessary proposed law are law abiding citizens.-[source]
